2.1 - Data provided by the user

  • Account information: name, email address, password
  • Profile information: username, language preferences
  • Genealogical content: family trees, individuals, events, sources, documents, transcriptions, parcels
  • Media: images, scanned documents uploaded to the platform
  • Correspondence: messages sent via the contact form

2.2 - Automatically collected data

  • IP address and connection data
  • Browser and operating system type
  • Pages visited and usage data
  • Session cookies (strictly necessary for operation)

4. Data Recipients

Your personal data may be transmitted to:

  • The Géné Foncier internal team (access limited to what is necessary)
  • Technical service providers: hosting (EU), email services, error monitoring
  • Judicial or administrative authorities, upon valid legal request only

Géné Foncier will never sell, license or transfer your personal data to third parties for commercial purposes.


5. Data Transfers Outside the EU

User data is hosted within the European Union. If certain technical service providers are located outside the EU, transfers are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) approved by the European Commission or by an adequacy decision (EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework).


6. Data Retention Periods

7. Sensitive Data in Genealogy

Historical archives may contain sensitive data within the meaning of Article 9 of the GDPR (religious beliefs, health, ethnic origin). In accordance with CNIL Deliberation 2012-113, Géné Foncier ensures:

  • Concealment of sensitive data in documents less than 150 years old
  • Prevention of search engine indexing of names/surnames in records less than 120 years old
  • Processing for archival and historical research purposes (Article 9.2.j GDPR)

8. Data of Deceased Persons

The GDPR does not apply to deceased persons. However, under Articles 84 to 86 of the French Data Protection Act, heirs may:

  • Access data useful for settling the estate
  • Request removal of data if disclosure could harm them

In accordance with the GDPR (Articles 15 to 22), you have the following rights:

10. Security

Géné Foncier implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data: encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, restricted access, regular backups, antivirus scanning of uploaded files (ClamAV), and continuous monitoring.
